Mark explains this history that isn't taught in school.

He leads us to the founding fathers of our nation and explains why America needs less government, not more.

It is up to us to succeed, not government giving us crumbs in exchange of our freedom.

Without the usual argumentative discussion that comes between the conservative and the liberal points of view, this book shares a balance between the two, giving the reader a chance to formulate his/her own ideas without the contestable and detestable rhetoric that some extremists use to a point of view. At the end of the day, whatever ones coviction may be, one has the right to maintain his/her own set of ideas,Pamela Yellen, and continue in their own ways without contrary conviction or thought. By tvtv3 "tvtv3"RESCUING SPRITE was the last book written by Mark Levin and it was kind of a detour from the political observations and commentary some readers, many radio listeners and television viewers were used to. In his latest book, LIBERTY AND TYRANNY, Levin returns to his conservative political writing. The title of the book is taken from a quote from Abraham Lincoln,

"We all declare for liberty, but in using the same word we do not all mean the same thing. With some the word liberty may mean for each man to do as he pleases with himself, and the product of his labor; while with others, the same word may mean for some men to do as they please with other men and the product of other men's labor. Here are two, not only different, but incompatible things, called by the same name--liberty. And it follows that each of the things is, by the respective parties, called by two different and incompatible names--liberty and tyranny."
Lincoln was speaking specifically about slavery, but his proclamation was also a warning for future generations of Americans to always be vigilant in protecting their freedoms.

In LIBERTY AND TYRANNY, Levin paints a portrait of a nation that is once again divided, but this time the threat is sly and subversive and uses the liberties entitled for Americans as a way of slowly removing those freedoms. In the book, Levin illustrates the ideas and ideals that made America great and separated us from other countries and powers in the world. Each chapter begins with a short description about what some of those founding beliefs and freedoms, based upon the Constitution, are. Afterwards he uses a compare and contrast approach to display what the enemies of liberty, what Levin describes as Statists (modern liberalism), believe and what true Conservatives believe. He also discusses what the Statists are doing to destroy and take away American freedoms and what Conservatives have to do to prevent it. For those who believe that Levin is just another Bush-lover/Obama-hater, they clearly haven't read LIBERTY AND TYRANNY. Levin illustrates several times throughout the book why former President George W. Bush and Sen. John McCain, though labeled as conservatives by the media, are not true conservatives. Even such Republican stalwarts as Dennis Hastert and Newt Gingrich are chastised for some of their Statist-influenced, non-conservative positions.

Though there are a variety of sources used in the book, the majority of textual support comes directly from the Declaration of Independence, the Articles of Confederation, the U.S. Constitution, and the Federalist Papers. As these, our founding and foundational documents, illustrate so clearly, the rights they describe are not given by any man, but by a Creator and governments, especially our government, only exists by allowance from the people to serve the people. After ten chapters, each about a particular issue, the last section of the book is a sort of epilogue where Levin provides a conservative manifesto. A manifesto is, "a public declaration of principles, policies, or intentions, especially of a political nature" (dictionary.com). Sometimes a manifesto is spoken in a speech, but often a manifesto is delivered via the written word. Levin's is of the later and is something that anyone who has any conservative beliefs should probably at least take a look at.

There are some who share Levin's beliefs, but who might have difficulty reading LIBERTY AND TYRANNY because even though the book is written in a very logical manner, Levin uses a slightly larger vocabulary than some readers might be accustomed. Also, instead of just directly showing his hand, Levin slowly builds each one of his arguments (they're really more like small treatises) so that a reader has to have patience, think, and mentally digest what they are reading. I would hope that this doesn't discourage readers from reading the book, but they should be aware that even though the book is relatively short, it takes time one time to read through it and appreciate what it is saying. Other than that, the only major drawback I had with the book is that not enough time was spent specifically illustrating what conservatives can do to keep their liberties and stop the threat of tyranny. Things that need to happen are listed, but there are very few specifics as to what people can individually do. Related Articles:

While reviews will attack this book as being partisan, the reply is simply that it is and that is the purpose. The book is not an apologetic attempt to bring people together; the purpose of this book is to waken the minds of Conservatives to act for the survival of our Country based on the Founding principles. This books provides the general road map to getting America back on track with her history and purpose in the world. Levin uses the term Statist more than liberal, which is an excellent word to describe actions of big government supporters. Having lived next to Communist with Socialist for almost a decade, Levin is entirely right about the threat of Statist on our Country. While I am only one person, Levin has inspired my thinking and I promise to act in every way to protect by beloved America. Thank you for such a succient manifesto on how to be a Conservative! A definite wake-up call for America!

As the book details, the principles of our founding fathers and our Constitution are getting lost to bigger and bigger government, all in the name of "helping" people. By Matthew PtakAs a hard line libertarian, I was extrememly impressed that 99% of Mark's conservative message in his book models the feelings any freedom loving american.
Mark does an excellant job of stating one of the simple facts that liberals hate to hear, that is while democrats always act as liberals, repubilicans don't always act as conservatives. Liberals got a free ride while being able to condemn conservatism using the so-called "moderate" republicans for the past few years. They are not the same, conservative principles have always won out and it is time to make the country aware of this.

    Good tactics, but needs more focus on starting business

    Good tactics,Stephenie Meyer Imprints on Her Characters (but maybe not her fans),The Ultimate Depression Survival Guide,Breaking Dawn Hardcover, but needs more focus on starting business


    I think this book is very good on the topics related to investment and savings. The advice is awesome in that regard.


    But all of these tactics still leave your future in the hands of other people and many of these people are incompetent or crooks,Heartbreak of Heathcliff Proportions, or both. I think that there should have been more discussion of investing in businesses and ventures controlled by yourself and your family.


    That is the only way to ensure your personal survival in my opinion.

    Breaking Dawn (The Twilight Saga, Book 4)


    Great love stories thrive on sacrifice. Throughout The Twilight Saga (Twilight, New Moon, and Eclipse), Stephenie Meyer has emulated great love stories--Romeo and Juliet, Wuthering Heights--with the fated, yet perpetually doomed love of Bella (the human girl) and Edward (the vampire who feeds on animals instead of humans). In Breaking Dawn, the fourth and final installment in the series, Bella’s story plays out in some unexpected ways. The ongoing conflicts that made this series so compelling--a human girl in love with a vampire, a werewolf in love with a human girl, the generations-long feud between werewolves and vampires--resolve pretty quickly, apparently so that Meyer could focus on Bella’s latest opportunity for self-sacrifice: giving her life for someone she loves even more than Edward. How close she comes to actually making that sacrifice is questionable, which is a big shift from the earlier books. Even though you knew Bella would make it through somehow, the threats to her life, and to her relationship with Edward, had previously always felt real. It’s as if Meyer was afraid of hurting her characters too much, which is unfortunate, because the pain Bella suffered at losing Edward in New Moon, and the pain Jacob suffered at losing Bella again and again, are the fire and the heart that drive the whole series. Diehard fans will stick with Bella, Edward,books, and Jacob for as many twists and turns as possible, but after most of the characters get what they want with little sacrifice, some readers may have a harder time caring what happens next. (Ages 12 and up)

It isn't meant as a right-wing attack, rather, it is a rally call for the right-thinking people of America. We need to stand up and show the government that it serves us--not the other way around. Totalitarianism is at its worst when it moves in slowly--no matter whether it chooses an elephant, donkey or any other animal as its symbol.Liberty and Tyranny: A Conservative Manifesto I have been told that a frog in hot water will jump out to save its life. However, you put a frog in cold water and slowly turn up the temperature you can boil it alive with very little protest because it can't sense the change. Well, America, the fire of tyranny is being slowly turned up under our feet, if we choose to ignore it we shall share the fate of the amphibian that can't tell its life is in danger. So unless you are part of this Fabian conquest of America, you may want to consider setting aside any political squabbles you have with Mr. Levin and try educating yourself before its too late.

    Liberty and Tyranny: A Conservative Manifesto

    Mark Levin offers a thoughtful, if biased at times, look into the current crisis that government has become in "Liberty and Tyranny". Most of the information is not groundbreaking, but badly needs to be disseminated if we are to avoid an utter collapse into tyranny here in the United States. Levin's main antagonist in the book isn't Barack Obama or even George W. Bush (he does accurately place blame on both presidents for continuing the explosion in government and the stripping of its citizens' rights); the antagonist is simply the generic power-hungry statist, which exists in both political parties and promotes government solutions for everything. Levin's idea is simple, the purpose of government is to protect liberty, but the main thing that differentiates government from other organizations is its authority to strip liberty from its people--a striking contradiction that needs to be addressed.
    After a solid summary of the current status, Levin offers suggestions of what needs to be done to correct our wayward ship:

    Liberty and Tyranny: A Conservative Manifesto

    1- taxation - eliminate progressive income tax and replace it with flat tax
    2- environment - eliminate tax-exempt status for environmental groups, litigation allowances
    3- judges - legislative veto over judicial decisions
    4- administration - sunset all independent federal agencies each year
    5- gov. education - eliminate monopoly
    6- immigration - eliminate chain migration
    7- entitlements - educate about the programs; defeat national health care
    8- foreign policy - reject treaties that have at purpose the supplantation of US interest to a global interest
    9- faith oppose all efforts to upend nation's roots
    10- demand all public servants uphold the constitution and justify their acts under the constitution

    Most of Levin's suggestions are right on, notably the idea to sunset all independent federal agencies and to institute a flat tax instead of the current progressive income tax. He does, however miss some very important concepts: he defends using torture on terrorists (a positiion that cannot be morally defended as it is not a sure way to garner information and there is no way of determining for sure if such people are guilty), and he misses the boat on environmentalism: we should be allowed to live in a clean environment--anyone who disrupts that is stripping us of our unalienable rights.

    Overall, "Liberty" is a good read with wise ideas. Hopefully, it will lead to strong, definitive action.

    About the Author

    Willard Cleon Skousen (January 20, 1913 - January 9, 2006) was a conservative author, political commentator, and academic. He also was employed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

    Skousen authored The Naked Communist and was the source of the publication "1963 Communist Goals" list. He later wrote a follow-up, The Naked Capitalist, based on Carroll Quigley's assertions made in the books Tragedy and Hope and The Anglo-American Establishment, which claimed that top Western merchant bankers, industrialists and related institutions were behind the rise of Communism and Fascism around the world.

    Skousen was born in Raymond, Alberta, Canada, and moved with his family to both Mexico and California as a youth.

    In June 1935, immediately after graduating from San Bernardino Valley Jr. College, where he served as Student Body President, Skousen began working for the Agricultural Adjustment Administration. This led into a career with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) the following year, which lasted until 1951.

    Skousen attended George Washington University Law School, graduating with an LL.B. in June 1940. He had already passed the Washington, D.C., Bar Exam. In 1972, recognizing the sufficiency of his law school studies more than 30 years earlier, his law degree was upgraded to Juris Doctor (J.D.).

    After the American election of 1980, Skousen was appointed to the Council for National Policy, a think tank of influential politicians, scholars and academics that lent support and advice to President Ronald Reagan s administration. Among the many solutions Skousen proposed included suggested programs to convert the Social Security system to private retirement accounts and a plan to completely wipe out the national debt. Skousen was never a tax protestor but campaigned for several proposals to eliminate the federal income tax, including the famous Liberty Amendment, which among other things, would return federally owned land to the states and preclude the federal government from being involved in any activities that competed with private enterprise.

    Good story with a huge cliff-hanger

    Storm from the Shadows This book tells a generally good story. With this new wok, Weber moves up the Honorverse main storyline to a couple of months after the huge Battle of Manticore, narrated in his last major Honor Harrington novel - "At all costs".

    If you follow the Honor Harrington story lines this book, per se, offers a view into what is happening in the Talbot Cluster while Haven and Manticore are at each others throats and opens up two new possible combat fronts for the embattled Royal Manticoran Navy.

    Have in mind that the book ends with a huge cliff-hanger and that you will wish you had the next book in hand when you finish it.

    Storm from the Shadows


    Rear Admiral Michelle Henke was commanding one of the ships in a force led by Honor Harrington in an all-out space battle. The odds were against the Star Kingdom forces, and they had to run. But Michelle’s ship was crippled, and had to be destroyed to prevent superior Manticoran technology from falling into Havenite hands, and she and her surviving crew were taken prisoner.
